January, for many, is a time to reset. Dry January, Veganuary and the ‘new year, new me’ mindset encourages everyone to create better habits for a whole month. Especially food and drink habits; according to Public Health England, 61% of people are looking to eat healthier.
The trend of setting New Year’s resolutions is expected to be more widespread with 30% of Brits setting them in 2024. Over 30% aim to focus on weight loss and to improve their dietary habits. Simply adding supplements to their daily coffee or smoothie, drinking protein shakes or cutting out alcohol or caffeine have become common lifestyle changes consumers are adopting.

The rapid rise of no and low alcohol spirits, wines, and mocktails has gone hand in hand with the nations new healthy habits. A huge 47% of UK adults are switching to alcohol free/low drinks in order to moderate their drinking. Dry January further encourages this lifestyle with 75% of those who commit, succeeding in abstaining from alcohol for the month and 59% drinking less the six months after. Sales of no-or low-alcohol beer, cider, wines and spirits are up 23%, with younger consumers being the most interested in non-alcoholic concepts such as mocktails.

Beverages account for over 40% of hospitality business revenues, and ‘healthy’ beverage products are among the fastest growing category. Healthy beverages are easy to incorporate into a menu as they are convenient to distribute, up sell in existing drinks and it’s easy to change their presentation to meet customer demand.
